how to maintain carbon fiber glasses frames

Carbon fiber glasses are favored for their lightweight, high strength, and corrosion resistance, but due to the particularity of materials and processes, maintenance requires extra care. The following provides systematic maintenance suggestions from the perspectives of use, cleaning, and preservation to help extend the service life of carbon fiber glasses. From the perspective of glasses manufacturers, properly maintaining carbon fiber eyeglass frames is not only the responsibility of users, but also the core link in brand value continuation and product performance maintenance.

Carbon fiber is a composite of high-strength fibers and a resin matrix, and its performance depends on the continuity of the fibers and the integrity of the resin. If the resin cracks or the fibers delaminate due to improper cleaning or external impact, the mechanical structure of the material will be directly destroyed (such as a decrease in tensile strength of more than 30%), and this damage is irreversible. In addition, carbon fiber frames require dozens of processes such as prepreg laying, high temperature and high pressure curing, and CNC precision carving. The production of a single pair of frames can take up to 5-8 hours. If the frame breaks or deforms due to improper maintenance, the mold needs to be disassembled and remade for repair at the factory, and the cost may be close to 60%-80% of the new product, which is much higher than ordinary acetate glasses frames and metal glasses frames. Therefore, it is particularly important to properly maintain carbon fiber eyeglass frames.

Maintenance of carbon fiber eyeglass frames 1: Use them correctly to reduce structural damage.
Carbon fiber eyeglass frames should avoid improper stress. Although carbon fiber is strong, excessive bending or squeezing may cause cracks in the resin matrix, especially at the joints. Use both hands when taking them off and avoid pulling the temples with one hand.
When exercising or doing strenuous activities, it is recommended to use non-slip ear hooks or sports straps to prevent the frames from falling and being damaged due to shaking.
In order to prevent scratches on carbon fiber eyeglass frames, avoid direct contact and friction with hard objects, which will affect the appearance of carbon fiber glasses.
Maintenance of carbon fiber glasses frame 2: Stay away from extreme environments.
High temperature. Prolonged exposure to an environment above 60°C (such as a car dashboard, sauna room) may cause deformation of carbon fiber glasses and damage to the resin coating on the surface.
Chemical corrosion. Avoid contact with solvents such as alcohol, perfume, and sunscreen spray to prevent peeling of the surface coating or oxidation of the fiber.
Humidity. Long-term humid environment may accelerate the rust of metal accessories of carbon fiber glasses such as metal hinges. Wipe off sweat stains in time after wearing.
Maintenance of carbon fiber glasses frame 3: Scientific cleaning.
When making carbon fiber glasses, a layer of coating is generally added to the surface of the glasses. When cleaning, pay attention to protecting the surface coating. The following are daily cleaning steps.
Tool selection: Use a microfiber cloth, such as a special lens cleaning cloth, and a neutral pH value cleaner. It is recommended to use a special glasses spray.
Operation process: Use an air bag or a soft brush to remove dust from the gaps in the frame first, spray the cleaner and gently wipe along the fiber texture in one direction to avoid scratches caused by circular friction.
When deep cleaning, it is necessary to pay attention to the easy accumulation of oil and dirt at the connection between the temple and the frame. You can use a cotton swab to dip a small amount of clean water and wipe it gently. Do not use hard objects such as toothpicks to scratch.
For carbon fiber sunglasses, if the lens is coated, it needs to be cleaned separately from the frame to avoid the detergent from penetrating into the edge and damaging the film layer.
Maintenance of carbon fiber eyeglass frames 4: Professional maintenance to prevent invisible wear and tear.
Regular inspection and adjustment. Check the tightness of the hinge screws every 3 months, use a precision screwdriver to fine-tune, and tighten gently. Over-tightening may cause thread slippage.
If the opening and closing of the temples are stuck, apply a small amount of silicone grease for lubrication, and do not use lubricating oil.
Avoid self-modification. The carbon fiber one-piece frame cannot be heated and adjusted by itself. It needs to be returned to the factory for processing by professional equipment to avoid damaging the fiber structure.
Maintenance of carbon fiber glasses frames 5: Store properly to avoid accidental damage.
Storage principles for carbon fiber glasses frames.
Use a hard glasses case lined with suede or flannel to avoid mixing with hard objects such as keys. When traveling, you can put the glasses case in the inner layer of the shockproof bag.
When temporarily placed, the lenses face up to prevent the frames from rubbing against the table. Never hang glasses on the collar or on the top of the head, which can easily cause the temples to deform.
Long-term storage management suggestions. Clean and dry before storage, then wrap with anti-static cloth and place in a cool and dry place. You can place a moisture-proof agent such as a silica gel bag.
Maintenance of carbon fiber eyeglass frames 6: Handling of special situations.
Repair of scratches on carbon fiber eyeglass frames. Minor scratches can be repaired locally with carbon fiber special polishing paste such as 3M 39010, and deep scratches need to be returned to the factory for resin coating.
Treatment of fractures of carbon fiber eyeglass frames. If fracture occurs, do not use glue to bond it yourself. Carbon fiber needs special epoxy resin and pressure curing process to repair.
The manufacturing process of carbon fiber glasses is very complicated. Few eyewear manufacturers can produce high-quality and complex structure carbon fiber glasses frames, so the price of carbon fiber glasses is often very expensive. Through the above correct maintenance methods, the service life of carbon fiber glasses can be extended by 3 to 5 years. It should be noted that the differences in craftsmanship between different brands may affect the maintenance details. It is recommended to carry out targeted maintenance in combination with the product manual. Regularly returning to the factory or finding a professional eyewear store for professional testing and maintenance can maximize its performance and beauty.
